Amanatto has been a popular Japanese dessert since the 1860s. The dessert appeared when sugar first became available in Japan, and people started to use it for cooking. The dessert is prepared using beans, which can be azuki or black soybeans. The beans are boiled in sugar syrup, dried, and covered with more sugar. 

Japan: Anmitsu

Anmitsu is a Japanese jelly sweet that is made of anko (red bean paste), mochi (doughlike mass made from rice), red endo mame peas, fruit (peaches, cherries, pineapple, orange), and brown sugar syrup. 

Water and fruit juice are mixed with agar to make tiny portions of agar-agar jelly. Then all the sweets are mixed together and served cold in a bowl.

Japan: Japanese Strawberry Shortcake

This cake is often cooked for Christmas and will suit a Christian date as well. The cake is a traditional Japanese fluffy sponge cake, decorated with whipping cream, and fresh strawberries. First, you bake the layers by pouring sugar syrup on all of them. This is an important step that protects layers from getting dry. Then the cake is decorated with cream, strawberries, and sugar powder. It looks very winter-like and festive. 

USA: Buche de Noel

Buche de Noel came from France and is usually cooked at Christmas in the US. The dessert symbolizes the log of Christmas. It is baked a bit in advance using yolks, sugar and salt, cocoa powder, and vanilla. The cake is often decorated with chocolate ganache to make it look more like a log. You can decorate the cake with meringue mushrooms, rosemary leaves, and berries. 

USA: Toffee Pudding

Originally the toffee pudding is a classic British dessert that also became very popular in the US. The cake has a soft and tender sponge structure. The remarkable thing about the cake is its rich toffee topping. The dessert is usually served with whipped cream or ice cream.

USA: American light Christmas cake

A very popular dessert for Christmas takes quite a lot of preparation. You can start cooking it in a month because the cake needs time to get soft and full of syrup. The cake is prepared with brandy, candied, dried, and fresh fruit. The unique taste is also achieved thanks to the spices – cloves, cinnamon, and salt. 

Great Britain: Mince pie

Mince pie is a popular dessert for every Christmas in Great Britain. They have existed since the 16th century. The filling is rich and sticky, consisting of dried fruit, sugar, spices, and brandy. The tasty filling is put inside a small sweet pastry. The small cakes are served with vanilla ice cream or cream. 

Great Britain: Christmas pudding

Christmas pudding is also usually cooked in advance. Preparation starts five weeks before Christmas. This pudding is dark and sticky, with a lot of dried fruit, candied fruit peel, apples, and citrus zests. The cake is cooked in advance so as to give the ingredients time to stick together, and the tastes could mix properly. 

Scotland: Dundee cake

This is one more rich fruit cake that comes from Dundee, Scotland. Though there are many variations, the traditional recipe must include the zest of an orange and traditional malt whisky as a flavoring. When the cake is ready it is often decorated with almonds. 

Scotland: Shortbread

These traditional Scottish cookies were originally Christmas cookies because they were quite expensive and not everyone could afford them. The unique taste is combined with the incredible simplicity of the recipe. The dough consists just of sugar, butter, and flour. Though Shortbread had a humble past, today it is so popular that it can be found in all souvenir shops in Scotland.

Ireland: Baked apples

Baked apples are so easy to cook and they give a brilliant smell to your home. Traditionally the apples are not peeled because the skin contains many nutritions and gives a unique flour. To cook one, just get rid of the apple core, cover the apple skin with butter, and then roll it in sugar and spices. The core of the apple can be optionally filled with raisins and nuts. Apples are baked for about an hour.
